Who We Are

DrugBank is an Edmonton-based startup with our sights firmly set on the stars. We pride ourselves on being bold, setting ambitious goals, and working tenaciously to achieve them. We’ve grown quickly and we have no intention of slowing down. Our team is extremely hard-working, highly motivated, and really good with a pun. We believe in celebrating our wins (Great Place to Work Canada, #3), lending a hand, taking breaks, and doing what it takes to be a really great place to work. DrugBankers thrive in the ambiguity and flexibility of a startup, get to see the impact of their work everyday, and love to work together and have fun.

What We Do

We are the world’s first intelligent and comprehensive drug knowledge platform. Our goal is to augment human intelligence so that all medical information is used to its fullest potential—because we want everyone in the world to have access to the best possible medical outcomes. Our team of experts, with the help of artificial intelligence, gathers all of the latest biomedical information into one knowledge platform. Then we make it all very easy to use via DrugBank Online, data downloads or software integrations.

The Role

Here at DrugBank we pride ourselves on being bold and setting ambitious goals for our company. We are fast-growing, highly motivated, and extremely hard working, and we celebrate our successes together. We’re the type of company that leans in and lends a hand, flexing our role muscles when necessary, and making sure we accomplish our goals.

We are looking for a seasoned expert to join our team as Senior Product Manager - DrugBank Platform. You will have deep knowledge in agile product management, and will have previously worked within scaling B2B SaaS companies, growing your knowledge and expertise throughout your career journey.

As a customer-driven expert, you will be fanatical about providing highly impactful value to our customers. You will work closely with the Product, Design, Marketing, Sales, Curation, and Software teams to drive the iterative processes to understand customer problems, and identify and validate opportunities that will determine our feature development, and future focus. Our product development and discovery processes are driven by the key methodologies shared in the book “Inspired” by Marty Cagan, and we follow agile development practices - we hope you do too!

Your role will focus specifically on our DrugBank Platform product where you will interact with current and potential customers, evaluate user feedback, strategize plans, and work with the team to implement product improvements. You will be able to understand the technical aspects of the product, the problems drug researchers in the pharmaceutical industry are trying to solve, and will communicate that externally to customers, and internally to our Development, Design, Sales, and Curation teams. In other words, you will be fluent in many types of communication, and will be able to translate complex findings into actionable solutions.

In addition to being an expert communicator, you will be analytical, and able to identify, evaluate, test, and monitor the effectiveness of the DrugBank Platform product team, features development, and anticipated results of changes.

Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Product Manager - DrugBank Platform will:

  • Use expert knowledge of complex B2B product management to guide discovery and validation efforts for DrugBank Platform.
  • Use strong agile development practices to lead discovery and validation efforts for the DrugBank Platform to make sure we are solving the right problems for our users. Assess potential impact and evaluate tradeoffs between competing opportunities.
  • Apply an iterative approach to solution delivery with the Product team, delivering value continuously and analyzing interim results to drive future decisions
  • Champion our products to internal teams as well as customers, while becoming an expert on medical and drug related data our customers value.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our customers and users, user data and analytics, and our market and industry so you have a strong foundation of knowledge to build product plans from and set meaningful impact targets for them.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the company’s business model, vision, strategy, and objectives and ensure alignment with the Product Team’s objectives and roadmap.
  • Maintain and evolve the Product Team’s backlog to reflect your decisions around scope and priority across multiple sources, enable your team to set meaningful sprint goals, and facilitate appropriate response times on customer support issues
  • Act as the primary liaison between our DrugBank Platform users and internal teams. You will coordinate efforts, facilitate communication, and ensure alignment across the teams. You’ll enable prioritization and opportunity assessment based on customer and business insights, and partner with engineering leaders to factor in the technology roadmap.
  • Be highly collaborative, and leverage your strong communication skills to build transparency and form trusted relationships to partner with others across many disciplines.
  • Coach, mentor, and assist less tenured product managers.
  • Be hands on for all aspects of product, design, prototyping and configuration of solutions.
  • Be a storyteller that is able to author and design high quality problem statements and communicate specific, actionable requirements to your engineering and design teammates.
  • Be able to successfully own and execute acceptance criteria, product development plans, and roadmaps.

  • You can clearly demonstrate your ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams and departments. You can speak to how you drive clarity, transparency, and shared goals with other teams to drive product goals.
  • You have a great combination of creative and highly analytical skill sets.
