THE POSITION

Director, PM

The Director of Project Management will play a pivotal role in leading high-impact programs within our rapidly growing biotech organization. This strategic position requires extensive expertise in drug development and project management, coupled with the ability to align cross-functional teams, shape program strategies, and deliver on complex, mission-critical objectives

This hybrid role is based in our Palo Alto office 2 days a week, with the flexibility of working remotely 3 days a week.

Responsibilities

Strategic Program Leadership

  • Provide strategic oversight of high-impact programs, aligning program goals with corporate strategy and long-term business priorities.
  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive program strategies, ensuring milestones and deliverables are achieved on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Evaluate alternative development scenarios, balancing costs, timelines, risks, and strategic objectives to provide actionable recommendations.

Cross-Functional Alignment and Leadership

  • Direct and inspire cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment and accountability across departments, including CMC, clinical, nonclinical, regulatory, and commercial functions.
  • Build strong partnerships across the organization and with external stakeholders to foster effective communication and ensure seamless collaboration.

Organizational Influence

  • Delivering high-level program updates, insights, and strategic recommendations.
  • Provide ongoing visibility into program risks, mitigation strategies, and critical decisions to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Drive key organizational initiatives to enhance program execution capabilities.

Risk Oversight and Problem Solving

  • Oversee the identification and proactive management of program risks, ensuring robust contingency planning and mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to resolve complex challenges efficiently.
  • Integrate data-driven insights into decision-making processes to optimize program success and outcomes.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a representative of the program, ensuring clear and consistent communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and organizational scalability.
  • Ensure program management best practices are followed across the organization, creating a framework for operational excellence.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with 10+ years, or Ph.D. with 8+ years. Equivalent professional experience in drug development and program leadership will also be considered.
  • Educational background in Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or a related scientific field is required; an advanced degree is strongly preferred.

Leadership and Strategic Expertise

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional, high-performing teams in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence program strategy and drive decision-making.
  • Extensive experience in navigating and managing complex drug development programs
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills with the ability to inspire and align diverse teams.

Regulatory and Business Acumen

  • Comprehensive understanding of global regulatory requirements and deliverables, including U.S., EMA, and other key regulatory authorities.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align program objectives with long-term goals, and financial considerations.

Additional Skills

  • Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, Smart Sheet, or similar systems.
  • Ability to deliver impactful presentations and manage high-level stakeholder communication.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $260,000 and the position may be eligible for performance-based bonuses and/or equity-linked compensation. Salary ranges are determined by role, level and location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. We offer Company-sponsored benefits, which include comprehensive health, dental and vision plans. In addition, we provide a 401(k) plan, ample time off programs, paid parental leave, life insurance, disability insurance, educational reimbursement, and an employee referral bonus program.
