Role:

Tentarix is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Phage Display, Antibody Discovery, and Engineering to lead our biologics discovery efforts. In this leadership role, the successful candidate will oversee a team of scientists in the design, execution, and optimization of phage display campaigns, spearhead antibody discovery initiatives, and develop engineering strategies to advance novel bi- and multispecific therapeutics.

The qualified candidate will have deep expertise in antibody discovery platforms, particularly phage display, combined with a strong foundation in molecular biology and protein engineering. Exceptional leadership and team-building skills are essential for nurturing a high-performing research team. The Director will work cross-functionally with the Biotherapeutics and Biology teams to drive antibody discovery, optimization, and seamless program advancement from early discovery through IND-enabling stages.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply deep knowledge of antibody discovery and optimization towards the development of Tentarix’s multispecific Tentacles
  • Utilize a deep knowledge of Phage Display to continuously design and upgrade Tentarix’s fully human Fab and VH-SelectTM phage display libraries
  • Manage Phage Discovery activities of the group contributing diverse binders to the overall pool that additionally includes binders discovered using Tentarix’s proprietary HuTARGTM technology
  • Manage Tentacle engineering, and affinity maturation/dematuration to achieve project target product profiles
  • Apply protein engineering, structural biology, and bioinformatics approaches to optimize molecules for desired therapeutic attributes and sequence liability removal
  • Drive efficient workflow progression and foster innovation within the team
  • Collaborate with CROs to execute molecular biology and in vivo binder discovery through animal immunization strategies
  • Ensure team is focused on meeting project timelines
  • Build strong lines of communication with the other teams at Tentarix to ensure proper hand-offs, maintenance of efficient workflows, and maximization of our capabilities and capacity
  • Maintain a culture of innovation and continual improvement
  • Support intellectual property filings and regulatory filings, as necessary

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ph.D., and 9+ years industry experience
  • Experience with phage display technology, library construction, NGS, ELISA, BLI, and other biochemical and biophysical methods for binder discovery and engineering
  • Expertise in state-of-the-art molecular biology
  • Hands-on experience with structure-guided protein engineering and protein modelling is highly desirable
  • Managerial experience leading medium-sized teams
  • Experience with antibody and antibody-like therapeutics, including bi- and multispecific antibodies, is preferred
  • Industry experience in developing biologics-based therapeutics is preferred
  • A strong track record of scientific achievement and delivery on biologics programs is preferred
  • Goal-oriented, organized, capable of prioritizing across multiple projects, and able to execute to timelines that meet company goals
  • Thrive in a cross-functional team environment and committed positively contributing to Tentarix supportive small company culture
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Confident, independent, and decisive with an understanding of the need for involvement at all levels and an attitude to get things done
  • Trustworthy with highest integrity, committed to ethics and scientific standards

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Tentarix, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $190,000 - $215,000 + bonus target + benefits + equity.
